We've been talking with Micah about his various bodily functions for a while now, trying to increase his vocabulary around the subject and help him learn when he's due for some business (if you know what I mean).
Then, in the last few months, Shannon bought a portable toilet ("Micah's potty") that has sat in our bathroom without getting much attention. We've regularly asked Micah if he'd like to sit on it while moving his bowels, which he always answered with a "No."
In the last week, we hit a speed bump because Micah began peeing in the tub for every bath. That's just not cool. So we made Micah sit on his potty for a minute before jumping in the tub for the last two baths. The first time--nothing. Just a lot of "Micah all done. Get in bath?"
But it all changed tonight. We had success for the first and second and third and fourth and fifth and sixth time. He started with a tinkle. And we of course gave him lots and lots of praise to encourage the behavior. And we let him take the inner bucket from his toilet, dump it in our toilet, and then flush (knowing that would increase the excitement even more). But Micah got so excited with all the praise and fun activities that he immediately said, "More pee!" and sat back down. After just a little more tinkle, he quickly said "All done" and was already pouring it in our toilet before we could clap and praise him more. And then we repeated it 4 more times. Oh boy, this guy likes to pee.
The best part was that one of the times also included some (sorry for the squeamish) poop. And it had a clear trace of red pepper (which we had in our stir fry for dinner). Micah was very excited about the poop too and quickly pointed at it saying, "Red pepper!"
We shall see where this fun adventure goes from here. But rest assured, we'll be eating lots of red pepper.
