It's annual review time at Adam's job, and he's been pretty focused on giving his team some quality feedback. In other words, he's been working a lot. Well last night, I saw a glimpse of how much his work really is getting to him.
It was about 1:30 AM, and Elly started crying. I listened to her for a bit, but her crying woke Adam up. He rolled over and started to get out of bed. Before he got too far, I told him that she's been making some noises for a few minutes and to just see if she'll go back down to sleep. Adam looked at me and said, "Ok, and do you have any other comments about her performance?" I sort of giggled because I thought he was being funny, but then it hit me: He was talking about work! So I said that I'd get her. But Adam insisted that he was awake. I told him I didn't think he was because he just asked for feedback about our child. He said, "I know what I'm saying. I'm awake. I didn't mean our Elly, I meant the other one." (For the record, Adam works with a woman named Elly.) I just smiled and said, "Ok, you go get our Elly since you're awake."
I can't complain though. He did get up with our Elly--even if his mind was analyzing her performance.
