We attended our first pregnancy class on Wednesday! I have been very excited to attend this class, which we'll now be going to once a month. The basic gist of the class is "group" healthcare, which means that several couples--all due in the same month--attend this class. We fill out our own charts for weight and blood pressure, chat about our experiences/questions, learn about a topic, and have our monthly check-up in a private part of the room. So far, I'm really enjoying this structure. Because I'm due at the end of the month and some women are due in the beginning, it's fun to look around the room and see where I'll be in about three weeks.
This class was filled with highlights for me:
- I've gained only 2.2 pounds. I'm really trying to gain the recommended 25-35 pounds for pregnancy, so I'm proud of myself so far--even if this is the heaviest I've ever been in my entire life...and no, I'm not telling you how much that is. :)
- Adam got to hear Baby Wilson's heartbeat! I have been waiting for him to hear it since I was the only one who heard it the first time. I think his response was, "That's fast." 165 beats per minute to be exact. (Apparently, at every class, we will get to hear the heartbeat, which is a big relief for me. I don't have a periscope to ensure everything is going OK in me, so a strong heartbeat is a calming factor.)
- When the midwife was checking Baby Wilson's heartbeat, her response was, "There's the heartbeat...and baby's on the move." I responded that baby typically is these days. I feel flutters several times a day in 3 to 4 day intervals. It's always funny to be working or watching TV and then get a flutter. It's like a little, "Hey mom, look what I can do" moment.
So those are the highlights! I'm really looking forward to our next class now that the initial introductions are done. Let's learn about pregnancy!

That's a really cool setup, how they combine pregnancy classes with your monthly checkups. I hadn't heard of that. Isn't getting to hear the heartbeat awesome? :)
